Mandya: The fifth Mandya City Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was organised by the Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat on Wednesday at Ambedkar Bhavan here with much fanfare.
Mandya district nodal secretary Jayaram Raipura, who is the CM’s secretary, inaugurated the event and said with the growth of Kannada literature, Kannada culture and heritage will naturally grow. Our attitude towards language development should change, the IAS officer said, adding Kannada language is our identity and those working in that field should be respected.
“We should develop the attitude of using Kannada language in our day to day activities,” he said.
Writer H R Kannika, who is the conference president, said without literature there is no society. “Without society there is no literature. Literature is a reflection of people's lives,” she said. “Writers are representatives of the society. They are social doctors who observe social revolution, shifts, ups and downs of the society and give accurate results in writing,” she said.
Thousands attended the conference which also had a cultural presentation by folk artists. ZP CEO Shanta L Hulmani, Mandya zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat president C K Ravikumar Chamalapura, writer Pradeepakumar Hebri were present. Earlier Kannika was taken to the venue in a procession from the Raitha Sabhangana through MC Road, VV Road and RP Road.
