UoM registrar expresses concern over unemployed postgraduates, PhD holders
Mysuru: University of Mysore Registrar (Evaluation) N Nagaraju on Tuesday expressed concern over the increasing number of postgraduate and PhD holders struggling to secure employment due to inadequate professional skills and poor communication abilities. He was speaking at a national training workshop on skills, expression, and communication organised at the BM Shri Auditorium. The workshop focused on bridging the widening gap between academic learning and employability. Nagaraju said that while academic degrees may qualify candidates for roles such as assistant professors, they do not automatically equip them with the practical competencies required in today's competitive job market.
To address this challenge, he said the university is organising specialised training programmes with support from the central govt to help students develop essential skills often overlooked in conventional curricula.Nagaraju urged students not to feel disheartened by the disconnect between educational qualifications and job opportunities. Instead, he encouraged them to adapt to the evolving needs of sectors such as corporate industries, banking, and information technology. Highlighting the importance of communication skills, he expressed concern that even some Kannada postgraduates struggle with effective writing and advised students to make use of govt schemes to become job creators.NK Lolahakshi, director of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, stressed the importance of preparing the Kannada language for the digital era. He noted that while artificial intelligence can process information, human intellect and emotional depth remain irreplaceable.
