MYSURU: The forest department officials on Sunday observed the Forest Martyrs' Day by paying floral tributes and gun salute to the martyrs at a programme held at the Aranya Bhavan on Sunday.
The forest department observes September 11 as the Forest Martyrs' Day every year to commemorate the death anniversary of deputy conservator of forests Srinivas, who was beheaded by forest brigand Veerappan in 1991.

Chief conservator of forest (CCF) BM Parameshwar said that about 39 brave forest department personnel lost their lives between 1966 and 2016 while protecting the state's forest and wildlife resources. The efforts of officers and guards in protecting forest resources and wild animals from poachers is crucial, he said.
Deputy conservator of forests (DCF) V Karikalan, chief conservator of forests (CCF) BM Parameshwar, assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Dilip Kumar Das, additional chief conservator of forests (ACCF) Jagathram and IFS officer Venkateshan and training persons were present.
