Madikeri: Through the dedicated efforts of AS Ponnanna, MLA of Virajpet, tribal residents finally received electricity after a 30-year wait. This development benefits numerous Scheduled Caste families in the region.
Bommadu village near Kanur previously relied on a Union govt solar power scheme that provided two lights per household 30 years ago. The solar power initiative gradually became ineffective over time, leaving residents in darkness. Despite repeated appeals to their elected representatives for electrical connectivity, their requests remained unfulfilled.
Ponnanna visited Bommadu village house colonies prior to the assembly elections two years ago and committed to getting electricity to the village. Following through on his pledge, he successfully provided electricity to more than 100 households in the area, benefiting Jenu Kuruba community members.
During his visit to Bommadu colony, the MLA commissioned the newly installed transformers, bringing light to local homes. The tribals expressed gratitude for his efforts. Community leader JA Somaiah, said, "The MLA has fulfilled a decades-old demand. We are content."
Ponnanna said, "Providing electricity is our fundamental responsibility. We promised electricity to the tribal community and delivered. I am pleased to have resolved this long-standing issue. My primary focus remains electrifying tribal villages along forest boundaries".
