Tribal children of Nagarahole proudly perform Kuvempu’s ‘Kindarajogi’
Madikeri: Poet laureate Kuvempu’s celebrated play Kindarajogi was staged at the tribal colony, Nagarahole’s Nanachi in Ponnampet taluk. The Tribal Comprehensive Development Arts Organization teamed with Rangayana and Kannada and culture department to stage the play which was directed by Vikas Chandra. The team retained the original music composed by legendary theatre personality BV Karanth.
About 25 children from Nanachi were part of the play. Alongside the drama, a team led by JB Ramesh, president of the Tribal Comprehensive Development Arts Institute, presented songs and dances portraying the culture of the bee-keepers community, using drums and tin instruments that energised the audience.
Ramakrishnaiah, vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Dr Gangubhai Hangal University of Music and Performing Arts, spoke about how stage experience builds courage, self-confidence and focus in children, and can support livelihoods. Vikas Chandra noted that tribal children often lack access to drama training, and said Rangayana trained them for 10 days.
