If the trend is not stopped, it will prove counter-productive for the democracy, he said after inaugurating the birth anniversary celebrations of Netaji Subashchandra Bose at Manasa Gangotri. The Netaji

Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee

and Post Graduate Library jointly celebrated the event.

Krishna said use of money power is on the rise during

polls

. But it rises ahead of the polling day. If this trend is not curbed, it will have an adverse impact on elections, he said. Many politicians across India believe that they need to win voters by extending them allurements to emerge victorious during elections. This is a dangerous trend, he said adding that it runs contrary to the ideals and principles promoted by freedom fighters. During the freedom movement, sacrifice was the buzzword. Many leaders including Netaji sacrificed themselves to win Independence, he said.

Gandhi Bhavan director S Shivarajappa said caste based organizations are on the rise and are gaining prominence. This is also a warning sign, he said adding that caste based society will not allow India to prosper.

Writer Kalegowda Nagawar and chief librarian R T D Ramesh Gandhi were present.
