Mysuru: University of Mysore will rope in top models to showcase the collections by students of top fashion designing schools in India in May.
The event, Students' Fashion Design Award (SFDA), will be held on May 21 and 22 to promote South Indian silks. It will have an array of actors - from Shilpa Shetty Kundra to Ragini Dwivedi - in attendance. The university is hosting the gala as part of its centenary celebrations.
VC K S Rangappa on Tuesday said that they have joined hands with Brahma Designer Studio to host the first-of-its-kind event in India. "It will provide an opportunity for fashion designing students of the country to showcase their designs," he told reporters.
The two-day event will be held at Maharaja's College grounds. Shilpa Shetty will attend the fashion awards night on May 22. Former Femina Miss India Universe Manasi Moghe, former Miss World Parvathy Omanakuttan and former Miss Asia Pacific Himangini Singh will be among the models who will attend the event.
UoM has selected 70 from among 260 student entries. They are from various fashion institutions like NIFT, IIFT, LPU, INIFD and others from across the country. Their designs will be showcased by models like Nethra Raghuraman, Sheetal Mallar, Candice Pinto, Sania Sheikh, Deepti Gujral, Sucheta Sharma, Vidisha Pavate and Dayana Erappa. The show will be directed by Shie Lobo. Sandalwood actors Parul Yadav, Rachita Ram, Shanvi Srivastava, Yogesh, Shruti Hariharan and Ragini Dwivedi will also attend.
"The idea of hosting the event is because of people's request for entertainment," Rangappa said, adding that UoM is planning to start University School of Fashion Design and Technology on the lines of NIFT. The event will be a precursor for the proposed top-ranking fashion design school, he claimed.
3D mapping of varsity The trajectory of the university's 100 years will be projected through a sound-and-light show. The 'son-et-lumiere' show will also cover Mysuru's history. This comes after Mysuru Palace Board designed a sound-and-light programme in the premises of the monument, mapping the major historical events of Mysuru.
