MYSORE: Festive ambience gripped Rangayana on Tuesday, the first day of its national theatre festival Bahuroopi.
For the weeklong festival, Rangayana was creatively decorated with screens and posters. The premise was also decked up with colourful and traditional rangoli.
A film festival, being held as part of Bahuroopi, was inaugurated by film director M S Sathyu.

On day one, short film 'The beginning' and Kannada movie 'Bara' were screened at Sri Ranga. Movie buffs enjoyed the films in large numbers.
The formal inaugural of Bahuroopi took place with a procession from the entrance of Rangayana to Vanaranga stage. The procession included folk artistes performing folk dance forms like Goravara Kunita, Tamate, Kamsale, Dollu kunita and Nadaswara.
A group of singers sang songs based on the national festival's theme Jeva-Jala-Jeevana. The numbers included folk songs 'Mayadanta malebantanna', 'Ee nela ee jala ee kaadu', 'Ee nela ee jala ee mannu nammadu' and 'Manujaku mannigu enta nantu'.
On day one of the theatre festival, Kannada plays 'Krishna Kuteela' and 'Anabhigna Shakuntala' were staged at Kalamandir and Vanaranga stages. Bhopal-based Hindi play 'Saudhaghar' was staged to a packed auditorium at Bhoomigeetha.

Kindaraijogi open-air stage witnessed folk dance Dollu kunita and a street play by Gejje Hejje theatre group. It was a combination of all theatre forms.
About 50 stalls have been opened to sell books, handicrafts and food items.
