State planning legislation to curb cybercrime, fake news: Home min

Mysuru: Home minister G Parameshwara on Saturday announced that the state government is planning legislation to curb the menace of cybercrime and fake news.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the home minister stated that fake news has become a challenge to law enforcement agencies. “We have observed that it is being used to create disturbance in the society. The state government is observing this closely. Fake news has caused harm to society many times. So the state is planning legislation to curb it," he said.
“Cybercrime is increasing in the county. Cybercrime wing of the police will be strengthened further and police will be empowered with new legislation to curb this menace," he added.
On former CM BS Yeddyurappa's call for a dharna against the government, he stated that in a democracy everyone is free to hold protests.
