Meet Shalini S, an inmate of Asha Bhavana, a wing of Rural Literacy and Health Programme (RLHP). She was rescued by members of RLHP when she was 8 years old. She was alone and was found seeking alms from public moving on Vinobha Road near Shivarampet.
RLHP director Saraswathi told TOI that Shalini wanted to be a social worker to help people in distress and on streets.
Here is another inspiring tale. Mutturaj B, an inmate of Odanadi Seva Samasthe (OSS), was sold to a businessman in Mangalore by a woman. OSS director L Parashuram said Mutturaj is a bright student and has scored 473 in the SSLC exam. He wants to be a lecturer. Parashuram said that the boy who is from a single-parent poor family from H D Kote was sold to a Mangalore businessman seven years ago by a woman. Mutturaj, however, was rescued a few months after he was sold and was brought to the OSS. Since then he is under our care, said Parashuram.
