MYSORE: The newly founded Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which made its presence felt in the elections to corporation and the assembly, will take up issues pertaining to drinking water and those relating to revenue layouts and houses.
At a press meet here on Tuesday, SDPI state president Abdul Mazid said that they will organize a protest rally on Thursday, seeking streamlining of water supply system and regularization of houses built on revenue lands.
"At present, over 4 lakh people belonging to various social groups are living in these houses, which the government has declared as 'illegal'. This tag has made them to lose the facilities provided by the government to OBCs and other poor sections of society," he said, adding that the government has different yardsticks for different categories of people. "People in Bangalore live in such illegal houses are given regularization letter and khata extracts. But they are denied to those living in tier II cities like Mysore?" he asked, urging the government to immediately initiate measures to regularize the houses in Mysore.
Mazid said that the government has spent crores on the water supply system. "But still, people in major parts of the city are facing water crisis. KRS is located near the city, and chief minister Siddaramaiah and revenue minister Srinivas Prasad hail from Mysore. But still, Mysore is facing the crisis," he said.
On Thursday, SDPI workers and supporters will take out a protest rally from Lalit Mahal Palace Hotel and pass through Lorry Stand, Shantinagar, Nazarabad and reach Mini Vidhan Soudha, where they will sit on a dharna.
