Siddaramaiah: TN creating trouble over Cauvery issue

Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday accused Tamil Nadu of causing what he called “unnecessary nuisance” on the Cauvery water-sharing issue.
He said: “177 tmc of water has been allocated to Tamil Nadu, and we must release that much water to them in normal years. During distress time, the distress formula should be followed, but Tamil Nadu is unnecessarily creating trouble.”
He also hit out at the BJP-led government at the Centre, accusing it of delay in giving approval to the construction of Mekedatu reservoir at Kanakapura across Cauvery river. “They (Centre) must tell Cauvery Water Management Authority (to grant permission), as it comes under the government, but they are not doing it,’’ the CM added.
Karnataka has been pressing for implementation of the Mekedatu project, claiming it is the only solution for the Cauvery water dispute between the two states during times of rainfall distress. tnn
