MYSORE: Where there is a will there is way. The old adage seems to have come true for 17-year-old Nethravathi. Her disability did not deter her from participating in the three-day University of Mysore inter-collegiate athletic meet, which is being held at University of Mysore Athletic Ground from Tuesday.
Nethravathi, I BA student from Maharanis Arts and Commerce College, has a deformity since birth. The girl was born without her left arm. However, she surprised everyone by taking part in high jump. She will also be representing her college in long jump and 4x400 relay events. When she was in high school, she got inspired by watching her friends take part in athletic events. PT teacher
Gajendra had motivated Nethravathi.
Nowadays, youngsters are not showing interest towards sports but Nethravathi with her disability have set an example by participating in the competition. Though she couldn’t win the event, her determination and dedication needs to be appreciated. Hailing from Palahalli in Mandya, Nethravathi is a proud daughter of Srinivas and Lakshmidevi, who are both agriculturists.
Earlier, she had participated in several events in school and college events and won several prizes. Seshanna, retired principal, department of Studies Physical Education and Sports Science, said, “I am very proud of Nethra, her determination and dedication should be appreciated; she deserves all support.” "I will speak to C Krishna, Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore and try to do my level best," added Seshanna.
