Rs 48cr released for dist hosp in Kollegal

Mysuru: The state govt has released Rs 48 crore for the first phase of construction of a new district hospital at Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district.The new hospital will come up on 5 acres at Mudigunda. The govt has planned to construct a 350-bed district hospital in the town, and released funds for the first phase of works.
The new facility is aimed at extending health services to residents bordering the forest areas of Hanur, Kollegal, and Yelandur.Even though the state govt set up a 150-bed sub-division govt hospital in the town four decades ago, the facility faced pressure due to the increasing number of patients.Following demand by elected representatives, including MLAs, the state govt sanctioned the new district hospital for Kollegal town, as the district hospital located in the district headquarters of Chamarajanagar was upgraded as the govt referral hospital of Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS).The new district hospital will offer multi-speciality services, including surgery, and will have three major operation theatres, an ICU, a dedicated dialysis unit, a blood bank, an outpatient wing.As the identification and transfer of land, and all other processes for the construction of the new district hospital were completed last Sept, the state govt released Rs 48 crore to take up the construction of the first phase works.Chamarajanagar district health officer S Chidambar told TOI the govt released Rs 48 crore for the works. Kollegal MLA A R Krishnamurthy said that work to construct the hospital will be taken up shortly.
