Rich tributes paid to Shankaracharya

Deputy commissioner Abhiram G Sankar and zilla panchayat CEO K Jyothi paid floral tributes to Adi
Speaking on the occasion, assistant director, department of Kannada and culture H Channappa hailed Shankaracharya’s contribution towards disseminating the message of of Advotha Vedanta and unifying the main currents of thought of Indian philosophy. Shankara, the eighth century philosopher and theologian, passed away at the age of 32. “Though he lived a very short life, he travelled on foot from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to unite the country and culture, he said.
Members of the Ramanuja Sahasranamotsava Samiti celebrated Shankara Jayanti at the Venugopalaswamy Temple. Sri Ramanujachaya’s 1002th birth anniversary was also celebrated on the occasion. Chamaraja MLA L Nagendra paid tributes to both the saints.
Brahmin leader HV Rajeev said festivals are celebrated in order to establish peace. Temples as a centre of religious activities have the power to unite towns and villages, he said.
President of Brahmins’ Association DT Prakash, corporator MV Ramprasad and others were present.
