Rangayana gears up for ‘Bahuroopi’
MYSURU: The city-based theatre repertory
Series of events have been lined up for Bahuroopi-2018, which will commence from January 14. During the eight-day festival, 24 plays, 24 movies and documentaries will be staged. Besides, South zone cultural centres, folk artistes from across the country will perform at the Kindari Jogi of the Rangayana premises. Plays will be staged at Bhoomigeetha, Kalamandira, mini theatre and Vanaranga. Movies will be screened at Sri Ranga.
Theme of the Bahuroopi-2018 is set as ‘Migration’. On January 14, the event will be inaugurated by Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad.

Painting camp
As part of the fest, Rangayana will host a three-day painting camp based on the theme and later throughout the Bahuroopi, paintings will be put to display. The journey of amateur theatre groups will be displayed by Srikanth Gundappa.
National-level seminar
From January 20, a two-day national seminar on the theme Migration will be held, wherein senior theatre personality of Maharashtra, Mahesh Elchunchur will inaugurate. Noted writer, journalist P Sainath will be present. Seminars will be held at the Sri Ranga of Rangayana from 10.30am. Noted speakers including activist Nandita Haksar, Bala Gurumurthy, senior theatre personality, Prakash Belawadi, T K Dayanand, former director of NSD, Anuradha Kapoor will discuss on topics like ‘Migration-Politics and Human Rights’, ‘My Experiences’ and ‘Sociological and Cultural Forms of Migration’.
Bahuroopi Film Festival
On all eight days, various international and national films from France, Denmark, US, Indonesia, Italy, Norway, Germany, Australia, Canada and India will be screened. The Bahuroopi Film Festival will be inaugurated by veteran film actor Jai Jagadish and Vijayalakshmi Singh.
Expo
In addition to watching plays, theatre enthusiasts can munch over varieties of delicacies at the Food Mela. Art, crafts and handloom with book exhibition will be held on the Rangayana premises.
Temporary bus shelter
A temporary bus shelter will be installed at the Kalamandira junction and parking facility will be provided in the Rangayana-Kukkarahalli Lake stretch.
Tickets for the shows will be available online from Monday. Prior booking can be done at the Rangayana premises.
Ticket price for individual play is Rs 50.
Theatre enthusiasts get to celebrate as Bahuroopi-2018 will present 11 non-Kannada plays.

Yuva Spandana
