MYSORE: Water outflow from
KRS dam has been cut further following a sharp decline in the inflow, putting to rest possible flood situation in Cauvery basin districts. However, boating facilities at Ranganathittu is unlikely to resume this weekend, given the current rate of outflow.
With rainfall taking a break at Kodagu and outflow from upstream Hemavathy dam coming down rapidly, the outflow from KRS dam was cut to 32,661 cusec from Tuesday morning.
Also, the outflow is unlikely to go up this week. Hundreds are milling to the tourists spots, including Ranganathittu, located along the banks of the river and to the dam to catch a glimpse of the gushing of Cauvery.
Sources told TOI that there are hardly any visitors since a week, when the boating facility was withdrawn. The facility can resume in case the outflow from KRS dam comes below 5,000 cusec. Given the current inflow and outflow from the upstream dam, boating is unlikely to start any time soon, they stated. Cauvery, which had swelled owing to release of over 60,000 cusec from KRS dam, has receded. But parts of the facility are still under water.
Meanwhile, a sharp decrease in the inflow to Hemavathy dam is being witnessed now, unlike last week. The inflow has come down to 13,547 cusec, and the authorities are releasing 10,700 cusec out of the dam. Of this, 9,7000 cusec is released into the river, which is reaching KRS. The outflow from Kabini dam is cut by 10,000 cusec from Tuesday as the dam is receiving 23,000 cusec. However, it is releasing water to Tamil Nadu for the sixth week in a row like Harangi dam in Kodagu which is releasing 9,200 cusecs to Cauvery river from July 1.
