MYSORE: Public rallies, health camps and health awareness meets marked the
world health day in the city on Wednesday.
The government institutions and NGOs took part in the events concentrating on the issues of health in the times of rapid urbanization.
The health and family welfare department joined hands with the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement to host a public rally to spread the message, which was flagged off by Krishnarajendra Hospital medical superintendent Dr Geetha Avadhani.
DHO Dr Raju was present. Doctors joined the rally that included para-medical staff, students of medical and nursing colleges.
A special health check-up camp for civic workers was hosted to mark the event. Mayor Purushothama inaugurated the camp for the pourakarmikas serving the MCC. Some 30 specialists in various disciples at K R Hospital, Cheluvamba Hospital and private hospitals examined the civic workers.
Meanwhile, members of the Mysore division of the South Western Railways joined the celebrations. Divisional railway manager B B Verma inaugurated the event at the railway hospital. He stressed the need for change in lifestyle to be healthy. There is also a need to cultivate healthy habits, he stated.
