Mysuru: Poor condition of key road connecting city with outskirts leaves residents upset
MYSURU: The thoroughfare connecting
Notwithstanding its importance in the overall connectivity matrix of Mysuru, the road is a picture of woe. Residents of the city are miffed with the mounds of garbage dotting the sides of the road, and the unscientific manner in which it has been designed. The lack of a median along the stretch provides regular commuters on the road plenty of reason to worry. However, Jayapura police said that residents had not approached them seeking a road divider or speedbreakers either near homes or in the vicinity of the several institutions lining the thoroughfare.
The apathy of the authorities concerned to repair the key road has the residents fuming. They pointed out that, right from Srirampura II Stage, the condition of the road is pitiable. Worse still, the residents added, the lack of police supervision at Parasayanahundi Circle was deeply distressing.
“Srirampura is among the most populated localities in the city, whereas Parasayanahundi Circle witnesses traffic round the clock. The stretch between Jayapura hobli and Parasayanahundi Circle is a stinking mess. You find garbage dumped indiscriminately on both sides along the stretch. There are no sign boards on the road, and despite the road leading to educational institutions, there are no speedbreakers,” said Ramanuja Sundaram, a KSRTC Layout resident.
Sundaram expressed concern over the safety of students from areas such as Udbur, Jayapura travelling to school on a daily basis. “The authorities concerned cannot neglect this road. They must take all possible measures to ensure safety in school zones,” he added.
Vice-principal of Mount Litera Zee School Geetha J Raman said that an extremely sharp curve close to the institution raised the hackles of many parents. “Besides, given it is such a busy stretch, the existence of this curve poses a grave threat to the safety of motorists. Representatives of the school management have been petitioning the local authorities to build a speedbreaker before the curve to prevent any accidents on this stretch,” said Geetha.
Jayapura police, however, said that they had not been informed about problems faced by commuters along the road. “We have not been asked to install speedbreakers anywhere along the road. But if problems are brought to our attention, we will certainly attend to them,” said a cop at the Jayapura police station.
