Police officer’s son arrested for running over farmer

Mysuru: Nanjangud Rural police have arrested a youth who had hit a farmer while performing stunts on a motorcycle on Saturday.His mother, a police officer, was transferred following protests by farmers who sought her suspension. Senior police officers who met the agitating farmers, told them that they will probe the charges and take action. Some time back, the youth was booked for dangerous driving by the Mysuru city police. According to police sources, the deceased is identified as Guruswamy,68, a resident of Immavu village. He was hit by a bike while accused Sayyed Aiman was allegedly performing stunts on a motorcycle, police said. Guruswamy was hit by the bike while he was grazing cows on the roadside, police said. His fellow cowherd Govindaraju was also injured in the incident. Even though they were both rushed to KR Hospital in Mysuru by villagers, Guruswamy succumbed to his injuries, police said. Govindaraju is now recovering in a hospital. On Sunday, farmers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha, protested in front of the mortuary of KR Hospital. They threatened to take Guruswamy’s body to the SP’s office, if action was not initiated. The accused’s mother has been transferred to the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) in Mysuru.Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha leader P Maranakaiah said that the Mysuru district police brass should initiate action against police officer Yasmeen Taj, as her son has been allegedly doing motorbike stunts in public places, that pose a danger to motorists. He claimed that the police department has not acted tough against the officer.Meanwhile, Alok Kumar, additional director general of police, traffic & road safety, stated that the incident was unacceptable. In a tweet, he stated that he has directed Mysuru district police to take action in this regard.

Fake police officer robs 2 of cellphones

Two men in Pune were robbed of their cellphones by a man posing as a cop. The incident occurred when the victims were walking near their accommodation. The suspect, pretending to be a secret police officer, accused the victims of taking photos and videos and threatened action against them. The victims handed over their phones, but the suspect fled before they could react. The stolen cellphones were worth a total of Rs17,000.

BJP dharnas today over police action

Telangana BJP is planning dharnas in protest against the police's actions during party chief G Kishan Reddy's deeksha. The party accuses the state government of trying to humiliate Reddy by taking him into custody and roughing him up. Reddy will continue his fast until Thursday morning, and doctors have conducted medical tests on him for minor injuries. Telangana BJP affairs in-charge Tarun Chugh criticized the police's behavior, stating that even peaceful protests are not allowed under the current regime. Former MLA Nallu Indrasena Reddy believes this agitation will lead to the end of CM KCR's autocratic rule.
