MYSURU

: Barely 24 hours after the government ordered a judicial probe into the deaths of 23 patients at

The move comes after the Chamarajanagar district administration submitted a death audit report in which it asserted that only three patients died due to lack of

oxygen

during the intervening night of May 2 and

3. It also comes in the wake of police seizing documents relating to the supply of oxygen to the hospital.

Chamarajanagar district minister

S Suresh Kumar

, who has stayed put in the district since Wednesday, continued to visit Covid facilities and interact with senior officials. He met with legislators and other elected representatives from the district on Thursday.

Kumar told reporters the team of doctors will probe the mass deaths. “The government has sent the team of doctors and other experts,” he confirmed.

The district has reported 20 deaths in the past 24 hours and Kumar said people are dying despite the hospital having enough medical oxygen, ventilators, and other treatment facilities.

Meanwhile, following the lack of coordination between Chamarajanagar and Mysuru district administrations, the Chamarajanagar district administration has appointed

IFS

officer Yedukondala V, DCF of Male Mahadeshwara Hills wildlife range, as the nodal officer to oversee supply of oxygen to hospitals.
