Mandya: Srirangapatna taluk administration officials visited Mahadevapura on Friday, and held a meeting with Dalit leaders and hairdressers, in the wake of complaints that the latter have stopped extending service to the former. Following a meeting convened by tahsildar Shweta N Ravindra, the issue was resolved. The KAS officer said that on November 5, a member of the gram panchayat had lodged a complaint during a meeting, that hairdressers in Mahadevpura are not extending service to Dalits.
When the local administration probed allegations of discrimination, it was found that it was a case of miscommunication. Shweta said that the hairdresser had asked the Dalit in question to visit him the next day, since was heading to his relative’s wedding. She added that the hairdressers felt bad about being accused of caste discrimination, following which they held a discussion on the issue with the elders of the village.
