Mysuru to host organic mango, jackfruit fest

Mysuru: The city will host a three-day organic mango and jackfruit fair at Nexus Centre City Mall in the city from May 29.
Joint Director of Horticulture Manjunath Angadi on Wednesday told reporters that the Department of Horticulture, Karnataka Mango Development Marketing Board hosted the mela with a main intention of encouraging farmers by providing direct marketing opportunities for them to sell their chemically-free and fresh farm produce.
The festival provides an opportunity for people to savour produce from different parts of Karnataka. The festival not only helps farmers sell organic, carbide-free fruits directly to customers, but customers also can buy their products at cheap rates.
Dozens of mango varieties like alphonso, raspuri, Banganapalli, Totagpuri, Mallika, Sendura will be kept for sale during the mela.
Varieties of ripe jackfruits like Rudrakshi, Shivarathri, Ekadashi, Tubagere will also be available.
Apart from fruits, visitors can also try mango-, jackfruit-based dishes at the venue. During the fair, various stalls featuring culinary delights like mango ice creams, pickles, juices, jackfruit chips, other dishes produced by using mangoes, jackfruit will be the main attraction. More than 80 varieties of mango and 35 varieties of jackfruit will be kept for sale during the festival.
Apart from these various organic products, soaps and detergents, pottery products will also be kept for display.
Demonstration to farmers and growers will be given at the festival. Cultural events, seminars, workshops organised as part of the festival.
