Mysuru cops help foreign tourist get back lost phone

Mysuru: Mysuru city police recently helped a foreign tourist get back her lost cellphone quickly.VV Puram police said the woman lost her mobile inside a park. Soon after receiving a complaint, police attended to it and tracked her phone. The phone was taken by a man who found it inside the park. The phone was later returned to her by the police, and the tourist thanked the police.

He suggested city police focus on tourist-friendly initiatives, as Mysuru is attracting foreign visitors in appreciable numbers, and ensuring safety will help maintain Mysuru's reputation as a welcoming destination for yoga education. During the inauguration of the new building of Siddhartha Nagar traffic police station recently, the home minister said many foreign tourists reside in the Gokulam locality. The home minister also suggested expanding CCTV surveillance as part of the initiative.Police commissioner Seema Latkar said the registration of foreigners residing in Mysuru is a continuous process, and it is done online and monitored regularly. Meetings are also conducted with hoteliers, directing them to ensure the safety of foreigners at their facilities.VV Puram police said all property owners are bound to furnish details of foreign nationals residing at long-stay accommodations to the jurisdictional police, and it is a continuous process. So far, no untoward incident involving foreigners was reported, as police are closely monitoring all activities.Authorities have advised tourists to use registered transport and contact police immediately if approached by suspicious individuals.
