MyMUL clocks 9.3L litres of milk procurement in April
Mysuru: Mysuru Milk Union Limited (MyMUL) recorded 9.3 lakh litres of daily milk procurement in April. About 1.7 lakh litres of excess milk was procured when compared to the previous years.Despite the district being affected by heatwave, the milk union has registered record milk production. Experts attributed it to prevention of diseases in cattle, livestock fodder supply, and increase in dairy farming activities. If this trend continues, daily milk procurement is likely to touch 12 to 13 lakh litres a day after June onwards once the monsoon picks up with green fodder available to milk producers.Usually MyMUL registers surplus milk production during kharif and winter season, due to cool environment, and decreases when the temperature starts to increase, but this year the milk union has maintained a steady increase of milk procurement during summer and continued to receive 9.3 lakh litres of milk procurement.MyMUL procures milk from nearly one lakh active milk producers among 2.1 milk union registered shareholders from 1,090 primary milk cooperative societies spread over various villages and towns of 9 taluks of Mysuru district.Deputy director of animal husbandry veterinary sciences Dr C Nagaraj said increase in dairy farming activities in the district and promotional measures initiated by the govt are attributed for increase in milk production in the union. The department has also been strengthened with 10 mobile clinics to take care of the health of the cattle. This is coupled with distribution of mineral kits—to deworm milking cows to increase the milk production, timely vaccination for prevention of lumpy skin disease, foot and mouth and other viral diseases in the milking cows, distribution of fodder kits, increasing the population of high-yielding milking cows through artificial insemination programme, distribution of fodder seed kits free of cost are all contributing for the increase in milk production as well as enhancing famers' income. The department is also distributing rubber mats, tips to maintain milking cows with shading arrangements during summer. All this is increasing milk procurement during summer season.Managing director of Mymul KN Suresh Naik said the milk union procured an excess of 1.7 lakh litres of milk a day in April this year when compared to last year. The milk union recorded improvement not only in milk procurement but also in sales and marketing of its hundreds of milk products under its Nandini brand. Time to time disbursement of incentives provided by the govt, milk procurement bills to milk producers, supplying nutritious fodder kits have all contributed for increase in milk production, he added.BOXWhite floodYear Litres of milk/day2022-23 —6.9 lakh litres 2023-24 —7.7 lakh litres 2024-25 —8.1 lakh litres 2025-26 —9.3 lakh litres
