Music director Hamsalekha takes dig at BJP poll rout

Mysuru: Taking an indirect dig at BJP, noted music director Hamsalekha on Tuesday said the people of Karnataka have proven they will not tolerate anything which is forced upon them. He spoke after inaugurating a cultural fest at Maharaja’s College.
There was one major issue that was haunting the people of Karnataka which prompted them to get rid of the previous government to make for a new government, he added.
Stating that there were plenty of opportunities for youngsters, Hamsalekha urged the students to be prepared to grasp any job opportunity as soon as they complete their graduation. Highlighting the importance of music, he said people earning lakhs in different professions were learning music to bring down their stress. Students must also get involved in any art form that would help them improve their knowledge and confidence, he added.
He also remembered the contributions of Mysore Maharajas to the field of performing arts. He said apart from folklore, Carnatic music and classical dance forms were being encouraged on a large scale during the rule of the Wadiyars.
University of Mysore registrar VR Shylaya, Maharaja’s College principal CA Sridhar, administrative officer V Shanmukham and others were present. Students performed various folk arts including Kamsale, Dollu Kunita among others on the occasion.
