MYSURU: Nobel peace laureate Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the University of Mysore's centenary lecture series here on Friday.
Yunus, who founded the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, will speak on 'Redesigning economics to redesign the world'. It will be the first of the Nobel laureate centenary lectures being organized as part of the university's centenary celebrations.
"We have invited Muhammad Yunus who is known for his contribution to rural banking. During the Indian Science Congress last year, he presented an outstanding lecture, which stunned me. When I requested him to deliver a lecture as part of the university's centenary celebrations, he agreed," UoM vice-chancellor KS Rangappa said.
Yunus, known as father of social business and microcredit, has received 55 honorary degrees from universities in 20 countries.
On the occasion, a biography of Yunus in Kannada and a book on 'Badavara Bankers' will be released. Apart from this, Yunus will also launch the university's Microinsurance Awareness and Enrolment Mission.
