Mother held for alcoholic son’s murder; Mysuru police crack case in 10 days

Mysuru: Mysuru city police have cracked the murder of a youth within 10 days by arresting his mother, who allegedly smashed his head with a boulder and killed him.CP Seema Latkar informed TOI that it was the biggest challenge for the city police to crack the murder of an unknown youth, as his identity wasn't known, and there was literally no clue about the murder.After an unknown body was found at the foothills of Chamundi Hills near Tavarekatte in Nazarbad police limits, four special teams were formed to uncover the murder.On April 23, police were able to zero in on the accused soon after the victim's identity was established. His mother was then taken into custody.Four special teams under the supervision of ACP (Devaraja sub-division) K Rajendra, and led by Nazarbad police station inspector Mahadevaswamy M, were formed, and the team reviewed CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene and various locations in the city. Based on the movements of the deceased and the suspect found near the crime scene at 8 am on April 14, the investigation was intensified.Seema Latkar said over 200 CCTV cameras installed in various parts of Mysuru city were scanned, and movements of the deceased and the suspect were traced. The accused, Manjula, aged 60, a domestic help and a resident of Kurimandi, NR Mohalla, was taken into police custody.During interrogation, she revealed that her second son, Ramesh, was unmarried and living with her. He was an alcoholic and persistently harassed her for money to drink. He would return home drunk daily, quarrel with her, and cause significant mental distress. Frustrated by this, she decided to kill him and, on April 14, took Ramesh from home in an auto-rickshaw.Around 8:30am, she got off near Tavarekatte on the road to Chamundi Hills, took Ramesh to a secluded space, and killed him by hitting him on the head with a stick and a stone. The accused mother, Manjula, was arrested in connection with the case and presented before the court, which remanded her to judicial custody, police said.
