MYSURU: A total of 225 accidents was reported last year from factories in the district, said D C Jagadeesh, deputy director of factories, boilers and industrial safety and health. Also, the department has received nearly 150 complaints.

"Accidents are an end result of lapses or mistakes that go unnoticed. To prevent them, we need to investigate the accident and take appropriate measures to avert such incidents in the future" Jagadeesh said while speaking at a CII session on legal compliance here. The Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering - Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP) sponsored the event.

Among the major factories in Mysuru district, seven are classified as accident prone, he said. There are 15,500 factories in the state, employing 15.5 lakh workers. This includes 4.9 lakh women workers. While industries are concentrated in Bengaluru rural and urban districts, accounting for 63% of the factories, the rest are scattered across the state. tnn

The deputy director also spoke on issues applicable to the industry, objectives of the legislation, guidelines to the management for compliance, statutory amenities to be provided in the factories. Apart from this, he also focused on statutory notices to be displayed at the units.

He asked the factory heads to see that proper health, safety, first aid, drinking water, restroom is provided to the workforce.

U K Shenoy, convenor, manufacturing panel, CII, was present at the session. Some 150 human resource heads and factory heads from Mysuru and neighbouring districts attended the session.
