Martyr Appaiah remembered

from Kodagu who was hanged by the

British

for fighting against them was

remembered

in

Madikeri

on Saturday.

It was Appaiah’s 183rd death anniversary and a programme was organized at his memorial in Madikeri. Dignitaries offered their respect to Appaiah’s statue.

Appaiah was among the first freedom fighters who opposed the British and he was hanged in public by the British on the Madikeri Fort premises on October 31, 1837.

Deputy commissioner Annies K Joy, MLAs KG Bopaiah and Appachu Ranjan, MLCs Sunil Subramani and Veena Achaiah were among the dignitaries present. Members of the Arebashe Academy along with the family members of Appaiah attended the event.
