Studied by mobile torch, Mysuru girl gets first class
Ishwarya, a student of Kenchanahalli Govt High School in HD Kote taluk of Mysuru district, has cleared the SSLC examination in first class after studying using a mobile torchlight due to a lack of basic infrastructure at home.
In Nov 2025, the local block education officer (BEO), SDMC president, school teachers and villagers visited her house as part of efforts to improve SSLC results in the taluk.
During the visit, they found Ishwarya studying by the light of a mobile phone torch.
Ishwarya lives with her mother and grandmother in Nandinathapura, about 30 km from HD Kote taluk. BEO CN Raju, who led the visit along with SDMC members and teachers, arranged a lighting facility for her after seeing the conditions in which she was studying.
Despite the lack of basic amenities, Ishwarya continued her studies and passed the SSLC examination with first class.
