Preliminary assessment of damages in Hunsur taluk alone has put losses at Rs 25 crore. Several low-lying areas in the city were flooded, but there was no damage to property. What started as a drizzle turned into a heavy shower that lasted through the night, leading to inundation of low-lying areas.
Heavy rainfall was recorded in Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks, while Heggadadevanakote and Nanjangud taluks also received average rainfall. Manuganahalli lake in Hunsur's Hangod hobli was breached owing to the heavy rain. At Niluvagilu in Periyapatna taluk, some 150 houses were damaged, while seven houses were destroyed. The commercial tobacco crop also was badly damaged in Periyapatna taluk.
DC P S Vastrad, who visited the rain-hit areas, put the damage at Hunsur taluk at Rs 25 crore. Relief works have commenced in the affected areas, he said. ZP CEO G Sathyavathi and KHB chairman G T Devegowda and Hunsur MLA H C Manjunath visited the rain-hit areas.
