Lok Sabha candidates can start filing nominations from today
Mysuru: The district election officer is set to issue the official notification on Thursday for Lok Sabha elections 2024 scheduled to be held on April 26. The process of receiving nominations for the Mysuru constituency will commence on Thursday. The district election officer’s office designated for the purpose will be opened on the first floor of the DC’s office in Siddhartha Nagar. Candidates can submit their nominations between 11am and 3pm and the last day to file nomination is 3pm, April 4.Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra, who is the returning officer for Mysuru Lok Sabha segment, on Wednesday gave the outline of the election schedule and procedures. He said, nomination papers will be scrutinised on April 5 and candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations by April 8. The polling will be held on April 26, while the counting of votes will take place on June 4.Additional deputy commissioner P Shivaraju is appointed as the assistant returning officer. Strict guidelines are in place for the nomination process. Each candidate is allowed to enter the election officer’s office with a maximum of five individuals, including the candidate. Recognised party candidates need only one proposer, while unrecognised registered party candidates require at least ten proposers. The security deposit for general candidates is Rs 25,000, while SC/ST candidates need to deposit Rs 12,500. The Election Commission of India has appointed a general observer, an expenditure observer, and a police observer to ensure the election is conducted fairly and without any malpractices. Electorates can report any complaints, including election malpractices, to these officers.The administration has made it clear that there will be no exemption from election duty, except for genuine reasons, for officers deputed on election works. Officers are expected to participate in the election process, which includes training, polling, counting, and duties on the eve of the polling day.In the lead-up to the elections, authorities have seized a significant amount of illegal items. From March 16 to 26, about 3.4 lakh litres of liquor valued at Rs 7.9 crore, Rs 23.3 lakh in cash, 3.2kg of ganja, and Rs 85,000 worth of freebies have been confiscated by the police, excise departments, and surveillance teams.The district commissioner has urged the electorate to utilize the C-Vigil mobile app to report any election-related issues, such as violations of the model code of conduct or distribution of freebies. To date, the app has received 308 complaints, with 253 of them already addressed. The administration is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent election process in Mysuru.
