Kisan yatra in city today

MYSORE: A one-day Akki Ahara Samskruthi Mela will be organized to welcome the Kisan Swaraj Yatra, at Vanaranga in Rangayana on Tuesday. The yatra, which commenced a month ago, is travelling across villages to create awareness on food safety, consumer choices and effects of GM crops. The Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (ASHA), an umbrella of organization of farmers, launched Kisan Swaraj Yatra on October 2 from Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat. The 70-day yatra will cover 20 states before reaching New Delhi on December 11.Theyatra raises concerns over free trade, bilateral agreements and seed laws. Itwill have events like conservation of diversity by farmers, highlighting successof ecological farming.The expo and sale of indigenous varieties ofrice grown in the state, organic products, local seed varieties, fruits, displayof charts, a seminar and organic farming interaction with Kisan Swaraj Yatriswill also be part of the expo.Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha leaderNanjunde Gowda will inaugurate Akki Ahara Samskruthi Mela at 10.30am.
