MYSORE: Schoolchildren are caught in the crossfire between district minister S A Ramdas and the Mysore ZP over Dasara holidays.
Days after the minister, who heads THE Dasara executive panel, said Dasara holidays will be rescheduled, the ZP has vetoed it. But the minister is unrelenting and said the students will have holidays from October 15. There is no clarity on the examination schedule as the minister has stated that they too will be postponed.
The ZP at its council meeting on Thursday decided to stick to Dasara holidays schedule from October 7.

The holidays are declared till October 24. But the minister wanted the students to be in school when Shaala Dasara will be on and asked for reworking of the holidays from October 15. But the ZP resolved to stick to the original schedule and will forward the resolution to the department of public instruction, which has to announce the holidays.
At the meeting, the members cutting across party lines argued that the uniformity in holidays should be followed. However, Ramadass is not convinced. The school holidays will be from October 15 and the necessary orders will be issued on Saturday, he told The Times of India. He said the plans to include the children in Shaala Dasara remain unchanged. Ill explain on Saturday, he stated.
This comes on a day when the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa inaugurated Grameen Dasara and Mane Mane Dasara, both of which aims to get the festival closer to people. Though Shaala Dasara was also scheduled to be inaugurated during the event, it has been withdrawn.
