Karnataka: Video of woman being assaulted in Bagalkot goes viral

BAGALKOT: A video clip of a man assaulting, and even kicking, a woman in Bagalkot has gone viral on social media. The incident is said to have occurred near Danush Hospital in the town.
In the video, the woman's husband is seen screaming for help. Bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile phones and uploaded it. After the video went viral, social media users urged police to take immediate action against the man who was seen carrying out the assault.
Bagalkot superintendent of police Lokesh Jagalasar confirmed to STOI that they had looked into the incident after the video went viral on the virtual space.
"Locals identified the man who was assaulting the woman as Mahantesh Cholchagudda. The woman in the video is Sangeeta Sikkeri, an advocate. Mahantesh is believed to have assaulted Sangeeta when an argument between them escalated. Sangeeta has since been admitted to a hospital and is on the road to recovery. She is yet to file a complaint, but is expected to do so soon. We will take Mahantesh into custody once a complaint is lodged against him," Jagalasar said.
