Karnataka: Mysuru and surrounding regions witness heavy rainfall

MYSURU: Old Mysuru and Malnad region of the state witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday night and Saturday.
In Malnad region, the rain was accompanied by a hailstorm causing damages to the plantation crops beside houses, school buildings, and other structures.
In Mysuru, the first rain of the year 2022 started around 5.45pm. The floodwater disrupted the vehicle movement in places as the roads were filled with water.The vehicle drivers had a tough time. The power supply was disrupted in many places.
Meanwhile, in Malnad region also the pre-monsoon rain continued. The rain uprooted an old neem tree at the holy place Kalingeswara Ramalingeshwara temple at Uraganahalli in Soraba raluk. According to priest Basavanna Swamyar the leaves of trees were sweet.
Speaking to STOI he said that the holy tree of centuries-old fell on the ground. Villagers are shocked after this incident as it was worshppied for generations. Soraba legislator Kumar Bangarappa visited the temple and places of damage.
Speaking to the media Kumar Bangarappa said, about 250 acres of crops (maize, areca, Banana have been destroyed following rains on Friday. In a preliminary assessment more than 50 houses, schools and community halls are damaged. Compensation would be provided for damages immediately.
Mudigere, Sringeri, Kalasa, NR Pura Taluks in Chikkamagaluru received rainfall.
A house belonging to Rajashekhar at Melangadi village in Kalasa Taluk was partially damaged after a coconut tree fell on the roof due to gusty wind on Friday. Coffee planters are happy to receive the first rainfall this summer. Many growers are worried after coffee flowers dry up.
Officers say rainfall is likely to hit the region on Saturday too.
