MANDYA: An eight-year-old girl has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by two boys inside the washroom of her school in Mandya district, police said on Monday.
The incident reportedly took place on January 31, with the girl's mother filing a police complaint on Sunday.
According to a senior police officer, the girl, who studies in class two at a government school, stated that two boys took her to the washroom, where they coerced her to remove her clothes and struck her with a stick, including on her private parts.
The officer mentioned that the girl identified one perpetrator as her classmate, whilst the other was from a senior class.
Though the accused boys warned her to keep quiet about the incident, she eventually disclosed it to her mother, the officer stated.
Following the girl's statement, authorities registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against both boys.
Mandya superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to verify the facts and establish the sequence of events.
The investigation includes a review of the school's CCTV footage.
The police reported that the girl's medical examination results showed no injuries to her private parts. They added that the boys' statements would be recorded before determining further course of action.
"We are currently investigating the case and are verifying details given by the girl in her statement. There are some inconsistencies in her account," he added.
BJP State President B Y Vijayendra took to social media platform 'X' to express his strong disapproval of the incident. He asserted that the state's law and order situation had entirely broken down, citing numerous instances of child rape, violence against women, and brazen daytime robberies.
He called for severe punishment to be meted out to those responsible for these crimes.
