SHIVAMOGGA: BY Raghavendra, BJP candidate and son of the party's state unit chief
BS Yeddyurappa, won Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 52,148 votes in the by-election. JD(S)-Congress alliance candidate and former MLA Madhu Bangarappa, who is son for former CM late S Bangarappa, failed to stop Raghavendra's winning march.
According to the final tally, BY Raghavendra secured 5,43,306 votes while his nearest rival Madhu secured 4,91,158 votes.
JD(U) candidate, Mahima Patel, son of former CM JH Patel secured just 8,713 votes.
According to the data, Shashikumar Gowda, an independent candidate secured 17,189 votes followed by NOTA. 10,687 voters exercised NOTA option. 46 votes were rejected.
The by-election to the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency gained importance due to the efforts by the JD(S)-Congress combine to take control on the constituency which is a BSY stronghold.
By-election was necessitated following the resignation of incumbent MP BS Yeddyurappa who was got elected to the state assembly from the Shikaripura constituency.
Out of 8 assembly segments, Madhu Bangarappa recorded leads in Soraba and Bhadravathi constituencies. In other constituencies, BY Raghavendra recorded lead.
