Kapila aarti brings temple town Nanjangud alive

The third edition of

Kapila

aarti on the lines of Ganga aarti was witnessed by thousands of devotees at

Nanjangud

, which is considered as the southern Kashi, on Monday night. As many as 64,000 diyas lit up the temple area, including Hadinaru Kaalu Mantapa and Snana Ghatta (bathing place for devotees), on the banks of river Kapila.

, district convener of Yuva Brigade, told us, “In the last edition, 80,000 diyas were lit up. This year, we had to reduce the number because some steps were removed by the authorities. This is a special occasion to perform the aarti to propitiate lord Nanjundeswhara. We even performed

abhisheka

to the linga.”
