Mysuru: If solar panels are put up along the newly-laid ring roads, 25% of power required for Mysuru city can be generated, said Ramakrishne Gowda, joint director of District Industrial Centre.
Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Renewable energy and energy conservation for industries, hotels, hospitals and government departmental offices' at a hotel here on Tuesday, he said: "A survey by some industrialists suggest that if the major portion of ring roads are lit with solar panels, about 55-60 megawatt of power can be generated. There is a need for non-conventional energy sources, and they are considered to be the energy of the future. Government has been emphasizing non-conventional energy. We should make use of such initiatives".
On the occasion, a technical session on ‘Role of renewable energy and energy conservation in the present scenario', and case studies of energy efficient pumps and motors, energy conservation initiative, rooftop solar-power plant, kitchen waste compact biogas plant and bio-diesel, carbon neutral in manufacturing and others were discussed by eminent scholars, academicians and resource persons.
Sudhakar S Shetty, chairman of District Coordination Committee, FKCCI, A S Satish, chairman Mysore Chamber of Commerce & Industries (MCCI), D K Dinesh Kumar, project engineer, KREDL, Mysuru, were present.
