Italian version of ‘Sharapanjara’ to be released at Sammelana
Mandya: ‘Sharapanjara', one of the classic Kannada novels by legendary writer late Triveni, translated into Italian by a Mysurean will be released on Friday at the inaugural ceremony of the 87th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya.The novel has been translated by Jaya Murthy who was born and brought up in Mysuru. The 77-year-old later moved to Italy in 1984. ‘Sharapanjara' was also made into a film with the same title and has won several awards. The novel was first published in 1962."It is the first novel of Triveni to be translated into any European language," said the author's daughter, Meera, who heads the Triveni Shankar Sahitya Pratistana.This is the third literary work translated by Jaya from Kannada to Italian. Earlier, she translated ‘Hambala', a novel by Gayatri Murthy, and ‘Dollar Sose' by Sudha Murthy into Italian."It took around two years for the translation of ‘Sharapanjara' into Italian," said Jaya, who has translated several books. She has also penned books on vegetarian and vegan cooking in Italian. "I was born and brought up in the Old Agrahara area in Mysuru. I moved to Mumbai after my marriage. In 1984, I moved to Italy with my husband," she said.During the inaugural ceremony, Sammelana president Go Ru Channabasappa's work on political violence during ancient India, a translation from English to Kannada, will also be released.
