Chamarajanagar: Law minister T B Jayachandra said that the government will set up 27 fast-track courts to exclusively try crimes against women and children.
Speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed court building at Kollegal town on Saturday, Jayachandra said that the additional court building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4.42 crore. "The number of cases coming to court has increased over the years. This has resulted in delay in their disposal. So there is a need to increase the number of fast-track courts in the state. Approval has been given to open 205 fast-track courts in the state this year," he added.
Jayachandra also said that the government is taking up measures to provide basic amenities at courts. "There is a shortage of judges in courts, and the recruitment process is in progress. But only a few will pass in the judge exam conducted every year," he said, and added that the state government is providing Rs 2,000 as stipend to young lawyers for attending special training camps. "Every year, the government is spending Rs 6 crore through district sessions court for the camp", he said.
High Court judge justice B Manohar, cooperation minister H S Mahadeva Prasad, MP R Dhruvanarayana and others participated in the programme.
