GIS workshop highlights K-GIS 2.0 role in governance

Mysuru: Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre director LN Rajesh Wednesday said the upgraded K-GIS 2.0 platform had earned national recognition — the Gold Award for e-governance in 2024 — highlighting the growing role of geospatial technology in governance.Speaking after inaugurating a technical workshop on GIS-based information delivery for local administration at Abdul Nazir Sab Auditorium on the ZP office premises, Rajesh said KSRSAC of the department of personnel and administrative reforms (e-governance) has contributed to several state and national projects since its inception.He said K-GIS 1.0, launched in 2016, laid the foundation for an integrated geospatial system. KSRSAC has since developed an ecosystem with over 600 GIS layers and a database covering nearly 20 lakh govt assets. A total of 41 mobile applications and 60 web-based platforms are currently in use for public and departmental services. He cited the Dishank app for property ownership verification and advanced weather-forecasting tools, and recalled that MDA assets were geo-mapped as early as 2009.ADC P Shivaraju spoke on the increasing influence of AI in governance and commended KSRSAC for maintaining data reliability and security. CCF Ravishankar highlighted the use of Dishank app in resolving land boundary disputes, while DSP C Mallik said technology had enabled automated traffic enforcement and would aid boundary identification in forest fringe areas.Senior officials, including DCP KS Sundar Raj, chief planning officer Prabhuswamy and ZP deputy secretary Savitha, attended the workshop.
