Former corporator urges KSRTC to strengthen public transport in Mysuru

Mysuru: Former corporator KV Mallesh urged the KSRTC divisional controllers of Mysuru City and Rural divisions, to strengthen the public transport system to ensure smoother traffic movement in Mysuru.In a memorandum submitted on behalf of Aniketana Seva Trust, Mallesh said Mysuru city is expanding rapidly and witnessing a steady rise in tourist traffic. After the launch of the Bengaluru–Mysuru national highway, public movement between the two cities has increased significantly. The number of commuters travelling to Mysuru from nearby villages, towns and cities also grew, while tourist inflow from neighbouring states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu increased sharply in recent years.As a result, smooth flow of traffic in the city is affected adversely. He also pointed out that satellite bus stands built in different parts of the city are not fully utilised. Facilities at Kuvempu Nagar, Sathagalli, Yelwala and Banni Mantap should be used effectively, and more terminals should be developed along major entry routes to Mysuru.If inter-district, inter-state and rural buses halt at these satellite terminals, pressure on the central bus stand can be reduced. Strengthening city bus connectivity from these terminals to major commercial and tourist locations would also help ease congestion, he said.He urged the transport department and state govt to provide additional buses and infrastructure to build a future-ready transport system for Mysuru.
