Ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply: Mandya ZP CEO tells officials
Mandya: With summer approaching and the likelihood of water scarcity increasing, Mandya zilla panchayat chief executive officer KR Nandini has instructed officials to take immediate precautionary measures to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply across the district. The CEO stressed the need for proactive planning and strict monitoring at all administrative levels. Officials have been directed to inspect all drinking water sources under each gram panchayat and carry out urgent repairs of defunct borewells, pipelines, pumps, and motors. A comprehensive village-wise report on current water availability must be prepared without delay. Where necessary, arrangements for tanker supply should be made, with priority given to schools, anganwadis, and public health centres. She warned that negligence in ensuring water supply would attract strict action.
Highlighting the challenges posed by rising temperatures, depleting groundwater levels, and increasing demand, the CEO instructed officials to identify vulnerable villages based on past records—particularly those dependent on tanker supply and those affected by low rainfall. Water levels in borewells, open wells, and tanks must be closely monitored. Issues in remote areas and SC/ST colonies should be addressed on priority through gram sabha and Village Water and Sanitation Committee meetings.Mandatory water quality testing has also been ordered. In critical situations, officials may lease private borewells, drill new ones, lay pipelines, or arrange electricity connections after inspection and approval from the Taluk Task Force and the District Water and Sanitation Committee.Public grievance meetings will be held at taluk centres from March 2, and weekly field inspections will be conducted every Monday to resolve drinking water issues on the spot.
