Mysuru district police have uncovered an online job market fraud by arresting three members of a gang and recovered 50 per cent of the alleged swindled money from the accused.

MYSURU: Mysuru district police have uncovered an online job market fraud by arresting three members of a gang and recovered 50 per cent of the alleged swindled money from the accused. Superintendent of police R Chethan on Friday said a resident of Kalyangiri Nagar was duped by a gang on the pretext of providing him a job online.
The police said the victim transferred money multiple times between November 2020 and April 2022 hoping to land the job.

As there was a delay, he started demanding the money back and finally approached the police on June 29.
An officer explained that the victim had lost his job during the Covid lockdowns.
He found a company offering jobs online and then approached them seeking a job.
As and when they demanded money, promising him the job, the victim transferred the money online. He ended up paying Rs 48.80 lakh to the gang, the police said.
The cyber police team headed by Shabbir Hussain received a complaint. A team led by additional SP R Shivakumar arrested three of the gang within a week. Laptops and mobile phones were seized and a search for the others is on.
The police have cautioned the general public about making payments online to unknown persons.
