MYSORE: The cultural hub is all set to celebrate the spirit of coastal Karnataka this Sunday. Karavali Utsav, an initiative of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Sangha, will showcase the art and culture of coastal areas. There are over 10,000 families from coastal areas residing in Mysore.
Educationist S Sudhakar, chief of Karavali Utsav Samiti, said it is an attempt to bind the people from coastal areas settled here.
"This is also an occasion to speak about our art and culture to Mysoreans," he told reporters.
There will be a wide display of coastal culture. While Kukke Subramanya Panjas Ranga Parivar troupe will present Karavali Janapada Samskrutika Vaibhava, there will also be Aantikalenja, Chennu Kunita, Kangilu, Pilipanji, Bailu Nalike, Maadira and Tattiriri Majalu.
The Konkani Christian Association will present Mando dance in the afternoon session. The event will culminate with a comedy play 'Badkad Orinda' by noted Devadas Kapikad from Mangalore. The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy will sponsor the event.
There is also a poets' meet with recitation of poems in Kannada, Tulu and Konkani.
At a seminar, professor in sociology Duggappa Kajekar will concentrate on cultural contribution and K P Puttaraya on political and economical contribution. Karavali Utsav Samiti working president V Srinivasa Rao said there will be special delicacies from the coastal Karnataka for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
