The head constable, working as a driver for the 112 emergency response support system vehicles of the Mysuru city police, said if the man’s head had drowned, he would have died.
“Just when we were making an effort to get a rope and request the public to support the rescue, the man moved and turned to his right. Without a second thought, I got into the drain and lifted him. Otherwise, he would have died,” the constable said.
According to Veerendra, the man identified himself as Mallikarjuna from Haveri. He was shifted to KR Hospital in an ambulance.
Veerendra has completed 21 years of service and worked in different police stations in Mysuru city. He is a native of M Kebbehundi.
