A supposedly drunk man had fallen into the drain opposite the KSRTC suburban bus stand and people were watching him lying in the filthy water when head constable D

Veerendra Gowda

arrived on the scene. The water was gushing and luckily, the man’s head was on a small mound.

Veerendra (41) jumped into the 8-foot-deep drain and rescued the man.

The head constable, working as a driver for the 112 emergency response support system vehicles of the Mysuru city police, said if the man’s head had drowned, he would have died.

“Just when we were making an effort to get a rope and request the public to support the rescue, the man moved and turned to his right. Without a second thought, I got into the drain and lifted him. Otherwise, he would have died,” the constable said.

According to Veerendra, the man identified himself as Mallikarjuna from Haveri. He was shifted to

KR Hospital

in an ambulance.
